There are some things you should make sure you have for your cruise of Alaska to make the most of your voyage. By making sure you have organized in advance then you will be more relaxed for your visit to Alaska and get more from your vacation. Most things you need to do are common sense, however they can be easily overlooked especially in the excitement of taking a cruise to such an amazing part of the world.

When you book your cruise it is always a good idea to get your travel insurance at the same time, this insurance will offer you different types of protection. Most people book a cruise well in advance of their departure date and should you need to cancel having booked so early the travel protection cover should cover most eventualities. So in the event of an illness, major injury to yourself or anyone traveling with you should be covered.

Not only does the holiday insurance cover cancellation protection but also protects you whilst you are on your cruise itself. In the event of illness or injury during the cruise you will have medical cover, which will pay your medical bills. Your luggage and personal possessions will also be covered. Make sure you read the policy to make sure it is suitable for your requirements.

For travellers from the United Stares make sure you have a valid copy of your birth certificate and suitable photographic identification or a passport with you. This is very important if your cruise ship visits a Canadian port as otherwise you may be unable to get off the ship. All other travelers will already have passports with them which they used to gain entry to the United States or Canada.

Plan ahead and make sure you pack appropriate clothing for the formal nights and some smart but casual attire for the less formal nights aboard the ship. Swimsuits and such shouldn’t be forgotten for the ships pool and Jacuzzi.

Don’t forget you are traveling to Alaska and pack appropriate clothing for the weather for the time of year you are traveling on your cruise. By layering your clothes you can be comfortable and warm at the same time. If you have hiking boots, make sure you take them if you are planning on taking some of the more adventurous excursions.

Pack an appropriate amount of soap and shampoo for your needs. Don’t expect the cruise company to provide anything better than you would expect in a hotel. If you don’t like small bars of soap and a basic shampoo simply pack your own. Make sure you take enough toothpaste and lotions for the length of cruise and number of people traveling.

It is advisable to take travelers cheques for the added security benefits as if they are stolen or lost they can be replaced but cash can’t. Extra cash can be used for shopping trips or for dining out whilst visiting a port of call in Alaska.
